My Math Journey

From AMC to USAMO / CMO

Grade 9 and 10

In grade 9, I sucked at math (I had a 75 on the AMC 10). But I greatly enjoyed it, so I drilled deep and began spending multiple hours on problems per day.

In grade 10, I scored 124.5 on the AMC 10. I also just missed the USAJMO and CMO cutoff, which was super disappointing for me. Luckily, I still qualified for the Canadian Junior Math Olympiad (CJMO).

Grade 10 Summer

My CJMO qualification led to an invitation to Canada Math Camp, for top 20 COMC scorers in grade 10 and under. I made many new friends here!

Grade 11

I qualified for the USA Math Olympiad (USAMO), a contest which only 300/30,000+ AMC participants reached! I also qualified for the Canadian Math Olympiad (CMO), top 90/5000+.

On USAMO, I ended up getting Honorable Mention (127th) and on CMO, I got Second Quartile (47th)

Team Math Contests

I had a lot of fun at team contests like the ARML and Harvard-MIT Math Tournament. These are the inspiration for TopsOJ tournaments, which are also team-based events.

Math Club

As Copresident, I guide our club in weekly lectures, lead team practices for our math team (placed 1st at the Canadian Team Math Contest), and organize our annual interschool Math Tournament.
